A machine makes 240 boxes in 6 hours. How many boxes will it make in 9 hours?

Answers to the 10 Ratio & Proportion word problems:

1. Ratio of Ages

Riya’s age : Sister’s age = 3 : 5
Riya = 12 years
1 part = 12 ÷ 3 = 4 years
Sister = 5 × 4 = 20 years

Answer: 20 years

2. Distributing Money

Ratio = 2 : 3
Total parts = 2 + 3 = 5
1 part = 500 ÷ 5 = ₹100

Child 1 = 2 × 100 = ₹200
Child 2 = 3 × 100 = ₹300

Answer: ₹200 and ₹300

3. Lemonade Recipe

Ratio = 1 : 4
Lemon juice = 3 cups
1 part = 3 cups
Water = 4 × 3 = 12 cups

Answer: 12 cups of water

4. Speed & Time

120 km in 2 hours → speed = 120 ÷ 2 = 60 km/h
In 5 hours → 60 × 5 = 300 km

Answer: 300 km

5. Boys and Girls

Ratio 7 : 9
7 parts = 14 boys
1 part = 14 ÷ 7 = 2
Girls = 9 × 2 = 18

Answer: 18 girls

6. Chocolate Bar

Ratio = 1 : 4
Total parts = 5
1 part = 250 ÷ 5 = 50 g

Friend 1 = 1 × 50 = 50 g
Friend 2 = 4 × 50 = 200 g

Answer: 50 g and 200 g

7. Cost of Pens

5 pens → ₹60
1 pen = 60 ÷ 5 = ₹12
8 pens = 8 × 12 = ₹96

Answer: ₹96

8. Mixing Paint

Ratio = 3 : 2
3 parts = 10 litres
1 part = 10 ÷ 3 = 3.33 litres (approx.)
White paint = 2 × 3.33 ≈ 6.67 litres

Answer: About 6.67 litres

9. Map Scale

1 cm → 5 km
7 cm → 7 × 5 = 35 km

Answer: 35 km

10. Boxes Made by Machine

240 boxes in 6 hours
1 hour = 240 ÷ 6 = 40 boxes
In 9 hours = 40 × 9 = 360 boxes

Answer: 360 boxes
